SUPPORTING YOUTH PARTICIPATION IN SERVICE DEVELOPMENT
Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust (From 08/2024 to Present)
I am supporting the development and co-facilitation of the CAMHS Service User Panel for North and South Camden Community CAMHS. This forum brings together young people aged 14–18 to share their lived experiences and collaborate on enhancing mental health services. The panel aims to ensure services are shaped by the voices of those who use them, improving responsiveness and accessibility.
In this ongoing initiative, my role includes:
Supporting the design and structure of the group to create a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment for young people
Co-facilitating panel sessions and guiding discussions on service feedback, improvements, and co-production
Collaborating with staff and young people to promote engagement, ensure continuity, and reflect feedback into practice
Promoting the forum through accessible communication and outreach
Skills Developed
This work is strengthening my skills in youth engagement, group facilitation, and co-production within mental health services. I have developed experience in inclusive service design, safeguarding considerations in youth spaces, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. It has also enhanced my ability to amplify young voices and translate their feedback into meaningful service development initiatives
Previous Projects and Talks
TALK: AN INTRODUCTION TO NARRATIVE EXPOSURE THERAPY (NET)
Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust (23/01/2025)
I delivered a workshop to staff members at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust introducing Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET), a short-term, trauma-focused intervention particularly suited for individuals who have experienced multiple or complex traumas. In this talk, I covered:
The theoretical foundations of NET, including the Dual Representation Theory and the concept of the Fear Network
The session structure and therapeutic process of NET, from the initial diagnostic interview to the development of the life narrative
The populations for whom NET is most suitable, such as refugees, asylum seekers, and survivors of complex trauma
Contraindications for NET and ethical considerations in its application
The benefits of NET as an evidence-based approach to trauma therapy that empowers clients by helping them reclaim their narratives
Skills Developed
Through delivering this workshop, I enhanced my ability to communicate complex psychological theories in accessible terms to multidisciplinary professionals. I strengthened my facilitation skills, particularly in encouraging reflective discussion on therapeutic practice. This experience also deepened my confidence in presenting clinical models and engaging colleagues in evidence-based approaches to trauma care.
Quality Improvement: Joy at work Project
West London NHS trust (03/2023)
The project aims to focus on what brings staff Joy at work and boost opportunities for this in meaningful ways that will impact CAMHS. I work on this project alongside Psychologists, Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Assistant Psychologist, Operational managers, and Admin. We are currently on the collection/analysis data phase of the project. We collect qualitative and quantitative data via a Microsoft Form survey and focus group. We are also analysing data using Thematic analysis research methods.
TALK: MY EXPERIENCE OF THE PGDIP CHILD AND YOUNG PERSON IAPT THERAPY
Anna Freud Centre (01/2023)
I was a guest speaker for PGDip Child and Young Person IAPT Therapy for the ASC/LD, Under 5’s, CBT and IPT-A modularity. In this talk I discussed the following area’s below:
My work experience and education prior to course
Why I applied to the course
My overall experience of the course: The positives and challenges
My Top Tips for managing the challenges on the course
Post-graduation experience
TALK: EXCLUSION CULTURE WITHIN PSYCHIATRY
West London NHS trust (08/2022)
I created and disseminated a presentation on a summary of The Big Mac Event I attended in June 2022. The key discussion topics of the presentation are below:
The challenges of working within NHS, specifically the idea of working in a broken system and exclusion culture,
How do the challenges impact on clinicians (moral injury and magical thinking) and impact on clinical practice?
Client’s experience of the NHS and potential next steps?
I also discussed my personal reflections on the Big MAC Event. My key reflections were
Honesty to patients about services and what we provide -
Changes are made in spaces were free and honest conversation are had and, in these spaces, it is normal to have feelings of feeling uncomfortable (changes aren't made in comfortable environments)
Patient involvement, supporting staff by providing adequate support to lower burnout is key to running healthy working environments and services.
Sometimes the thing is not an ‘outcome’ but the fact we can share and hold such space.
SERVICE PROJECT: PRE-RECORDING ASD GROUP
Whittington Health NHS Trust (08/2021)
I was a part of a small working group which collaboratively created a 3-week pre-recording ASC Parent group. The group talked about the following topics:
What is autism?
How to support your child?
What’s next? Services in the community.
The working group on a weekly basis to create these video. I specifically supported on updating the “How to support your child?” presentation. I also supported in writing voiceover scripts for the presentations of “How to support your child?” and “What’s next? Services in the community”, to support clinician who were recording for the pre-recording group.
SERVICE EVALUTION: CLIENT PARTICIPATION PROJECT Whittington Health NHS Trust (03/2021)
I lead on a Service Evaluation Project around "Exploring Parents’ Experiences of Autism Psychoeducation Groups (APG)" with a small working group. Data was collected around parents’ experiences of the APG, via semi-structured interviews. The data was then thematically analyzed and identified key theme of parents’ accounts were identified. I then disseminated these results in a follow-up meeting with the group facilitators and clinical lead to start the process of brainstorming group transformation. From this project, the following service transformation idea was facilitated:
Signposting parents to local ASC parent support groups
Improving accessibility to the group’s information by creating pre-recorded psychoeducation videos and sending them to parents unable to attend
SERVICE EVALUTION: ASSESSING THE CHRONIC FATIGUES PSYCHOLOGY TEAM EFFICACY
Epsom and St Helier University Hospital NHS trust (07/2019)
I conducted and disseminated an audit, comparing referral numbers from prior and current annum. I designed a PowerPoint presentation (containing graphs to illustrate quantitative data) and presented it in a meeting with the two clinical leads. The clinical Leads further disseminated the audit, along with additional referral information in a follow-up meeting to hospital managers to advocate why the service needs to renew its license and have more funding.
SERVICE EVALUTION: ASSESSING THE CHRONIC FATIGUES PSYCHOLOGY TEAM EFFICACY
Epsom and St Helier University Hospital NHS trust (2018-19)
I conducted an annual service evaluation on The Chronic Fatigues Psychology Team Efficacy from 2018-19". I compare pre and post Psychological Screening Tool (PST) scores for all therapy clients in the current annum. I disseminated the results to MDT. From this project, the following service transformation idea was facilitated: the post-PST must always be completed during the last appointment to capture the post-PST scores as there was a lack of data on client’s post-PST scores.
